What this policy covers

This policy describes what globalmetalusa.com does with information you give it, and what it collects automatically as you browse. It applies to this website only. It does not cover a quotation, a contract or a delivery, which are governed by our terms and conditions.

Information you give us

There are two forms on this website. Neither is required to browse the catalog, and there is no account to create.

• Product inquiries. Your name, email address, phone number, company name if you give one, the quantity you need, your message, and which product you were looking at when you asked. This is what we need in order to price the item and reply.
• Refer a friend. Your own name, email address, phone number and company, and the name, email address, phone number and company of the person you are referring. We use those details once, to make an introduction, and we say who referred them. Please only refer someone who is expecting to hear from us — they have not given us their details, you have.

What we do with it

We use it to answer you. Inquiries are stored in this website’s database and emailed to our sales team; we keep them so that we can pick up a conversation months later, which in this trade is normal — a specification quoted in spring is often ordered in autumn.

We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone for marketing. We do not add you to a mailing list because you asked a question. It is shared outside the business only where the work requires it — a mill, a galvanizer or a carrier who needs a delivery address — and only for that job.

How long we keep it

Inquiries and referrals are kept for three years from the last contact, then deleted. Records that belong to a completed order are kept for as long as tax and product-liability law requires us to keep them, which is longer.

You can ask us to delete your details before then, and we will, unless we are required to keep a record of a transaction.

Cookies

This site sets very few cookies, and none of them are advertising cookies.

• WooCommerce sets a session cookie so the catalog can remember what you were viewing. It carries a random identifier, not your name.
• WordPress sets cookies only if you log in to the administration area, which is for staff.
• We run no third-party advertising or tracking cookies, and there is no advertising pixel on this website.

What the server records

Like every web server, ours writes an access log: the IP address that made a request, the page requested, the time, and the browser’s own description of itself. It is used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and it is discarded on our host’s normal cycle. It is not used to build a profile of you.

Content from other websites

Some pages embed content hosted elsewhere — a map, or a video. Embedded content behaves exactly as though you had visited that other website, and that website can collect data about you, use cookies and monitor your interaction with the embed, under its own policy rather than this one.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, so what you type into a form is encrypted in transit. Both forms are protected against automated submission and cross-site posting. Access to the stored inquiries is limited to administrator accounts.

No website can promise perfect security. If we ever learn that information about you has been exposed, we will tell you.

Children

This is a website for a structural steel supplier. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes

If this policy changes we will replace the text on this page. Anything material will be dated here.
